Super Short Spooky Story Writing Contest

Calling all young authors from K-8th grade!

Get ready to unleash your creativity in our Super Short Spooky Story Writing Contest. Win fantastic prizes and have your story featured!

Contest Details:

  • Submission Period: September 1 – October 17

  • Who Can Enter: Open to students in K-8th grade.

  • Story Guidelines: Stories must be 200 words or less.

How to Submit:

  • Email: Send your story to casey.j.grimmer.naf@army.mil. Please include your name, grade, school, and story title.

  • In-Person: Drop off your story at the Torii Family & MWR Library (Bldg. 248).

The deadline for all submissions is 5:00 PM on October 17.

Prizes and Recognition:

Winners will be selected from three categories: K-2nd, 3rd-5th, and 6th-8th.

The winning stories will be read live during the Torii Family & MWR Library Storytime & Trunk-Or-Treat event on October 31 at 4:00 PM.

Who Can Use the Library?

  • Active-duty military (Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, and Coast Guard)
  • Members of the Reserve components and National Guard
  • Retired military, including retired from the Reserves and National Guard
  • Medal of Honor recipients and veterans with 100% service-connected disabilities
  • Eligible Family members who are officially sponsored by authorized patrons in the above categories
  • DoW and Coast Guard Civilians, including appropriated and nonappropriated fund employees, when stationed outside the United States; stateside eligibility is contingent upon resource availability

How to Get a Library Card? 

  • Visit your local MWR Library with your DoW ID
  • Register for an account at the front desk
  • Once registered, you can check out materials
  • Use your account at any DoW MWR Library worldwide!
