Strong Families. Safe homes. Help when you need it.
Military life comes with unique challenges, and sometimes those challenges can put stress on relationships and Families. The Family Advocacy Program (FAP) exists to support Soldiers and Families through difficult times. Whether it’s building stronger parenting skills, learning new ways to manage stress, or finding safety from abuse, we’re here to help.
Our services are free, private, and focused on prevention and support. If you ever feel unsafe, call 911 right away. You can also reach the Family Advocacy Hotline any time of day or call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at +1(800)799-7233.
Family Advocacy Program Outreach and Prevention
The Family Advocacy Program (FAP) outreach and prevention program promotes self-sufficiency, resilience, and community connection among active-duty service members, Family members, civilians, and retirees. In partnership with garrison and host-nation agencies, FAP offers programs and services that build individual and Family strengths and promote safe, respectful, and nonviolent communities.
FAP programs help participants:
-
Build on individual and Family strengths
-
Develop healthy behaviors and military lifestyles
-
Recognize and address behaviors that may contribute to Family maltreatment
-
Respect the differences and needs of Family members
FAP professionals also provide command and community education tailored to the challenges of living in Okinawa. Available services include seminars, workshops, and individualized intervention at no cost to active-duty service members.
For more information, contact your garrison’s Family Advocacy Program at DSN 315-652-4357 (HELP).
Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate Program
The Domestic Abuse Victim Advocate (DAVA) Program provides confidential support to adult victims of intimate partner abuse. Advocates can assist with crisis intervention, safety planning, medical-care referrals, information about legal rights and proceedings, referrals to military and civilian shelters, and other community resources.
DAVA advocates can also help clients understand their reporting options and, when requested, accompany them to medical appointments, court proceedings, and other related appointments. Services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
