Military youth face unique challenges that build character and leadership. Although military children are resilient, moving to a new place can be hard.
On average, military children move six to nine times before they graduate from high school. Moving means learning about a new culture, meeting new friends, and attending a new school.
Youth Sponsorship links inbound youth to a local military youth to ease their transition to Okinawa.
Your school liaison officer (SLO) can connect your child to a youth sponsorship program or welcome committee at his or her local youth or teen center or school. Such programs can assist in arranging a tour for your child or answering questions about local youth services your child may have (i.e. Youth Sports). For more information, contact your SLO.
